 【Shadow Sword】

I wasn’t quite sure what "shadow" meant in this context, but finally, something appeared that I could visualize!

That said, it's a sword.

It might not have an exposed blade, but if it did, it could probably cut through things in a flash.

This thing is dangerous...

"Oh…! Whoa, whoa…!"

I had taken another step back, eagerly watching to see what would appear, letting out a little "fuhihi" in excitement.

But what appeared was unexpectedly small.

I hurried forward and caught it before it could hit the floor.

"A… ring?"

What I caught was a simple silver ring with a black line running through the center.

There were no engravings or gemstones—just a plain, unadorned band.

What was it made of?

Silver? Platinum?

I couldn't tell.

Well, at least it was metal.

Now, the real issue…

"…Where's the sword?"

What is this? A ring.

That familiar example sentence flashed through my mind.

A ring.

Yeah, it's a ring.

A circular band you wear on your finger—or sometimes thread through a necklace.

But it’s definitely not a sword.

"…Where’s the sword?"

Where is it?

Though I was a little disappointed by the underwhelming result, I reminded myself of the example of 【Hideout】.

Maybe these three had some hidden potential too.

Gotta stay positive!

"I'm supposed to wear it… right?"

I decided to start investigating with the ring since I at least knew how to use it.

It seemed to fit my thumb best, but that would look weird, so I opted for my index finger even though it was a bit loose.

"…It won't bite, right?"

I suddenly recalled the "Mouth of Truth" in Italy and felt a little uneasy.

But I wouldn't get anywhere unless I tried it on.

Taking a deep breath to brace myself, I slid it onto my right index finger.

"Oh… Whoa!?"

The moment it reached the base of my finger, it shrank snugly to fit.

At the same time, my fingernail—just that one—turned pitch black, as if coated with nail polish.

This isn’t cursed… right?

"Ah, it came off."

I had a brief moment of panic, wondering what I'd do if it wouldn’t come off, like in a video game.

But there was no problem—the ring slid off easily, returning to its original size.

My fingernail also returned to normal.

When I put the ring back on, my nail turned black again.

Remove it, and it went back.

Was that all it did?

I felt like there was something more to this black nail…

As I kept observing, tapping at my nail, and repeatedly putting on and removing the ring, I noticed a faint glowing line appear between the ring and my finger when my nail darkened.

Rather than the ring causing something to happen to my body, it seemed more like it was directly affecting my nail.

In other words…

"Grow!"

The moment I firmly willed it, my black nail extended about 20 centimeters.

"Whoa…!"

Upon closer inspection, the black nail seemed to be an extension covering my real nail.

It grew straight from the base of my nail but didn’t curve along my finger—it remained rigidly straight.

I cautiously touched it with my left hand, but it didn’t bend or flex at all.

Even when I applied force, I felt nothing—it was completely separate from my real nail.

"Retract."

When I focused on that command, the length instantly shrank back to normal, leaving only the black color.

"Finally… a real fantasy ability…!"

【Hideout】 was impressive too, but it wasn’t something I could truly feel.

In contrast, 【Shadow Sword】 had a ring that adjusted its size, and my nails extended with a shing—this was fun!

This was a jackpot!

Guuuuurgh.

"…Oh."

Caught up in the excitement of using Holy Coins, I had completely forgotten about food.

I checked the monitor and saw that it was already pitch dark outside.

I didn't have a clock, but I had arrived in town around evening.

Just how long had I been focused on this?

There were still two more items to check, plus things to figure out once I left the church.

But first, I needed a bath, a meal, and a break.
