Gather Divine Coins and Gacha! - Chapter 21

Were we able to successfully destroy the core? The goblin's corpse crumbled away into dust and disappeared.

Dungeon monsters are made of either magical power or mana, and if you break the core, this happens.

If left alone, they apparently rot, but I don’t really understand how it works.

Monsters outside the dungeon leave actual corpses, which is kind of strange…

Well, I’ll think about that later.

I puffed out my chest with pride, thinking I did a good job, and turned to Elena like “How about that!”—only to see her staring at me with wide eyes.

Kind of a dumbfounded look… is she okay?

"What’s up?"

I do think I pulled it off pretty well, but Alec should’ve reported what happened yesterday, so it’s not like this should be shocking.

I looked around, wondering if there were still monsters hiding somewhere, but there was nothing.

"That thing of yours… it can move that fast?"

Oh, that’s what surprised her!

Now that she mentions it, back at the mansion, the best speed I could manage was like a light jog.

That just now had to be close to 50 kilometers per hour.

…And I feel like I can still go faster.

Should I actually try to push its limits someday?

Well, not now.

"Yeah, I feel like there’s still room to go faster, but I’m not really sure by how much."

"I see… could I ask you to keep fighting solo for a bit longer? I’ll jump in if it gets dangerous."

"? Got it."

Maybe it's easier for her to sync up if she observes a bit more first?

Well, I do want to practice fighting without relying on surprise attacks, so this might be a good opportunity.

As we talked and walked, two more goblins appeared ahead.

"Think you can handle it?"

"Piece of cake."

Looks like the goblins noticed us too and came charging.

Start with the closer one—“Aim for the one in the back!” Huh?

At the command from behind, I shifted targets, ignored the closer goblin, and surged forward toward the one in the back with a burst of speed.

It must not have expected that—I caught it frozen in surprise.

I decapitated it just like the last one and turned to take out the other, but Elena had already taken care of it.

I see… so that’s how this works.

"That went well. With your 【Floating Orb】, you can close the distance in a flash even from far away, so let’s keep targeting the ones in the back."

"Gotcha."

She did used to be a tutor—her teaching style is easy to understand.

Might as well take this chance to learn some basics about teamwork.

"Oh!"

Red lines were drawn along the walls and ceiling.

From here on, it’s the area known as the Deep Shallows.

We’d planned to reach about halfway, and if I listened closely, I could faintly hear voices deeper in.

Probably some new adventurers exploring for the first time this year.

So that means… we’re turning back?

"This is our stop—let’s head back. I’ll take the lead on the way out, so I’d like you to follow my movements. Can you do that?"

I’m finally in the rear, huh…

Since we switched roles, I’d been leading the way, while Elena occasionally called out "Right!" or "Go for the back!" from behind, using her 【Green Fang】 like a spear for support.

Basically, I only had to focus on vertical movement.

That’s probably why I was able to coordinate with her backup, even if the commands were minimal.

"Hey, uh…"

"Hm? Something wrong?"

"The thing you do with the whip—swinging it all around like that. There’s no way I can match that, okay?"

This is a fantasy world with magic and people like Alec who have game or manga-level powers.

Elena also feels like someone straight out of a game or manga.

Not in terms of strength, though—it’s her technique.

Honestly, it wouldn’t be weird if she started shouting out attack names.

"R-really? Then maybe it’s better if I just use it like a sword…"

She looked kinda disappointed… wait, she was serious about using that?

Sure, part of our goal was to test the item out, but coordinating with that is just…

"Alright. Just let me know before you use it, okay? I’ll stay back."

"⁉ Of course! Leave it to me!"

She sounds way too excited. She must’ve really wanted to try it.

Well, I get it—using new items is fun.

"Alright, let’s go!"

She’s a little too fired up, though… am I even going to have anything to do on the way back?
