 "Of course!"

I answered Alec's question in a single word.

Come to think of it, I originally came here to test Alec's shield.

A shield is meant to block, not to hit things, right?

"Alright. From here on, don’t get off. If your claws don’t work, use this."

With that instruction, he handed me a sword that had been strapped to his waist.

It was a short sword—a so-called shortsword.

If I charged in with this and 【Floating Orb】, I could probably handle goblins with ease. But would there really be a situation where my claws wouldn’t work?

They’re my greatest source of confidence…

"They're here. Let’s go."

Hearing Alec's voice, I looked up from my claws.

In front of us stood two goblins, each holding a club.

Alec had already raised his shield and moved right in front of them.

The goblins, in turn, immediately began their attack on him.

Come to think of it, I had only ever seen him take them down in a single hit—I’d never actually seen them attack before.

I watched from above, keeping some distance.

And well… they’re kinda dumb?

They kept swinging their clubs against Alec’s shield, over and over again, as if they expected it to do something.

Their eyes were locked on Alec, completely ignoring me even though I wasn’t that far away.

Just to be safe, I floated up higher, close to the ceiling, and maneuvered along it to get behind them.

Alec seemed to notice, though the goblins did not.

To ensure their attention remained on him, he deliberately raised his voice.

Nice tanking, Alec.

I descended to about a meter above the ground and then accelerated in one swift motion.

Aiming for the goblin on the right, I extended 【Shadow Blade】 and slashed.

Slice!

Its head flew clean off without the slightest resistance.

The remaining goblin started turning toward me in response, but with the momentum of my swing, I spun around and decapitated it just the same.

I… I took them out in an instant!

Relieved that my first real fight had gone smoothly and that 【Shadow Blade】 had worked as expected, I let my guard down for a moment.

That’s when I noticed a strange sensation in my left hand.

When I opened it—

"Holy Coins…?"

No way.

"What’s up?"

Alec, who had been dealing with the goblin remains, approached and noticed me staring at my hand.

"Look at this."

I showed him the Holy Coins, and his eyes widened in surprise.

Apparently, monsters sometimes drop them, but the probability is low.

It had taken Alec and Elena years to collect ten of them—including the ones I had just found.

And I got one just like that…!

"Hey… how about helping out a bit?"

"Huh? No waaay…"

After my first battle, I kept racking up wins.

Now, I could handle goblins on my own without issue.

So, what exactly was he asking me to help with?

Disposing of the monsters.

Their cores are located in their heads. If you crush them, the bodies will sometimes leave behind relics, but they will always disappear.

If you don’t deal with them properly, the leftover corpses rot and turn into a real nightmare.

This cleanup is part of dungeon etiquette, but…

"It’s gross, though."

I mean, who am I, some pampered noble lady? Even I had to admit I sounded ridiculous.

"Hanna will scold me, you know."

Hanna, the head maid of the Müller household.

Just the other day, I saw a high-ranking security captain—someone pretty important—getting seriously scolded by her in private.

Alec must’ve known about that, too, because he looked like he suddenly understood my hesitation.

"…Why are you dressed like that, anyway?"

He was referring to my outfit—a maid uniform.

Paired with sandals.

Not exactly appropriate attire for a dungeon.

Or even for going out, really.

So why was I wearing it?

"I don’t have any other clothes."

All I had was the tattered rags from the orphanage and two maid outfits.

Not much of a choice.

"…I see."

"Yep!"

I sleep in 【Hideout】, and I’m always wearing this otherwise, so I never really felt the need to buy more clothes.

But maybe I should get some?

In my past life, I spent a fair amount on suits, but when it came to casual clothes, I just grabbed whatever from Uniqlo.

I’ve never been particular about fashion.

Maybe I could find a tracksuit or something…?
