Gather Divine Coins and Gacha! - Chapter 189

 A January in winter.

I never imagined I would spend winter in a warm room in this town.

Looking out the dark window, I saw the soldiers guarding the mansion, illuminated by the lights.

It's tough for them in this cold.

"Heh heh..."

I couldn't help but let out a laugh.

"What's up with him?"

"Maybe he has some thoughts about this town."

Apparently, Alex and Elena heard my laugh and started whispering.

"If you keep being so mean, it might become a habit."

It seems Seriana realized what I was laughing about. I wanted to say those words right back at her.

The other day, Lef's magistrate's son, Marcus. When asked if I knew him, it seems they really intended to hire me if I answered yes. And the letter I delivered apparently said to ask Marcus in front of him.

Their reasoning was that if even a commoner like me, unfamiliar with internal relationships in the domain, knew him, he was valuable enough to keep despite any lack of talent... What a playful bunch.

In the end, Marcus wasn't hired, but he accepted a position as a regular soldier and is now working diligently. It seems he isn't a bad person.

Still, I'd rather not be suddenly thrown into such a high-pressure interview.

"Oh...?"

While I was at it, I decided to check on the soldiers patrolling the city walls, using Akame's Eye because of the distance... Something seemed odd.

"What's wrong?"

"Well... There's something outside..."

The magistrate's mansion is located in the southwest of the town, and I was looking toward the east, where the great forest lies. There's a training ground for soldiers just outside the eastern side of the town. There are storage and rest areas there, but they are not used at night, so there shouldn't be anyone around. But there's something there. I can only tell that something is there due to the distance...

"Hmph!"

I activated the Fairy's Eye. This might give me more information and help me understand what's going on.

"A monster?"

At first, it looked like a dot, but then I realized there were five creatures. With the Fairy's Eye, their vitality and magic blend together at such a distance, but from their colors, they seemed to be monsters rather than ordinary beasts.

"Where?"

Alex, who had come right beside me, asked, so I pointed in the direction I saw them, but with the naked eye, he could only see the lights held by the soldiers on the city wall.

"Let me see."

Seriana, who had also come close, extended her hand. It's about three kilometers away... Is she really up for it?

"Here. It's a bit beyond the training ground, right? There are five of them."

I handed over the Fairy's Eye and explained in more detail.

"Got it."

She put on the Fairy's Eye and activated it immediately. She closed her eyes and furrowed her brows, but was she alright?

"Phew..."

It only took a few seconds, but sweat appeared on her forehead.

"They are monsters. There are more further inside. Sera, bring the two downstairs to the first conference room. Alex, report to Liesel."

"Yes!"

Alex dashed off immediately upon hearing the instructions. The two downstairs are Jighart and Fiora, and the first conference room is the largest one in the main building. It's used for gathering the top officials of this town... Is it that serious?

When I led Jighart and Fiora to the conference room, Alex, Liesel, Auguste, and several other knights were already gathered there. On the way, we passed soldiers running outside, and various orders were probably being given.

The two joined them and started participating in the conversation.

What should I do... It seems like an emergency.

"You're quick."

I turned towards the voice at the entrance to see Seriana, who had changed from her casual clothes and even put on some light makeup, entering the room.

"It shows how serious the situation is."

Elena followed her in. Her outfit hadn't changed, but she had a sword at her side.

... I'm still in my pajamas. I know there are monsters nearby, but is it really something to panic about?

"Sera, take this."

Elena handed me the cape I had left in the room. If I need this, does it mean I'll be heading outside?
