Gather Divine Coins and Gacha! - Chapter 279

 "Whoa..."

After defeating the remaining ogres, I surveyed the hall... but even I was taken aback by the destruction I had caused.

The hall, large enough to fit a soccer field, now had a deep track nearly 100 meters long, running diagonally from the entrance. The line was about one meter wide and twenty centimeters deep. The power seemed to have gradually diminished, with the track shrinking to about a third of its size near the wall. Still, the wall bore the scars of gouged-out sections and collapsed fragments.

"...If I'm not careful, I might actually drag someone into this."

I turned back to look at the entrance. Through a hole in the wall, I could see the corridor beyond. The impact mark was about three meters high. It wasn't supposed to hop up like that, but I must have lost control when I swung it during the shot. As for the ogres that had been in the line of fire, they were likely obliterated along with their cores, as there were no corpses left for me to clean up.

There had been exactly ten surviving ogres. Considering that these packs usually consist of around twenty, that means I wiped out nearly half of them with that one shot. Even though the power was reduced after hitting the wall, this kind of force can take down an ogre in one hit. It's incredibly dangerous if I can't get better control over it.

There are still many halls infested with ogre packs. It may be unfortunate for the monsters, but it seems I need to conduct more live-fire tests in real battles...!

Heh heh...

The mid-levels of the dungeon in the Zelkis Territory are said to start producing enhanced versions of monsters—stronger than the usual ones—around halfway through. The areas are connected by corridors and made up of multiple halls. Occasionally, a wolf might appear among them, but for the most part, packs of ogres, numbering around twenty, are what you encounter.

The composition is almost always the same—several stone-throwing ogres in the front and the main force waiting behind them.

"Hah!"

I dodged all the stones hurled at me from the passageway and beheaded the last of the stone-throwers.

There were twelve ogres waiting in the main force. It was a bit fewer than usual, but they were all clustered around their boss. When their numbers are larger, they usually split into three or four smaller groups, but this worked to my advantage.

This ogre pack was an interesting one. Even though the stone-throwers were part of the same group, they acted independently. The main force would protect each other if any were attacked, but the stone-throwers were left on their own, essentially treated as disposable pawns.

Therefore, once you took care of them, you could take your time lining up your shots. Though they noticed me preparing my weapon, 【Danlem's String】, they showed no signs of making a move.

"Aim's ready!"

I drew the bow and lined up my shot. Aiming just a little to the left of the target was the key to ensuring a hit.

My targets were the boss and the three ogres around him, for a total of four. While I could take out more if I focused solely on eliminating as many as possible, I had learned through several battles that taking out the boss first was the most efficient strategy.

Whether you prioritize the boss or the numbers, you can wipe them out either way, but for now, I'll use this as practice for taking down the boss first and then clearing out the rest of the pack!

Unlike normal arrows, the arrows from 【Danlem's String】 extend like a ribbon, remaining connected to my hand for a moment after being released. However, the force of the shot causes the bow to twist slightly to the right and upwards, throwing off my aim.

If I were as strong as Alec, I might be able to handle it, but it's impossible for me while floating in midair. Even if I try to forcibly resist the pull, it only makes the deviation more erratic.

So...

"Hah!"

With a shout, I released the arrow, my right foot leaving the bowstring. The arrow of light shot straight toward the target with a fierce hum, though the bow began to twist to the right under the force.

"Hmph!"

Gripping the top of the bow and my left foot, I adjusted the height to prevent any vertical deviation. Even though this awkward stance meant I couldn't control the horizontal axis, at least I could manage the vertical one.

"Alright, alright..."

I had aimed slightly to the left of the target. The twist to the right now brought the shot perfectly in line, striking the boss and the ogres around him. In an instant, they were wiped out, throwing the remaining ogres into disarray.

Once it reaches this point, it's just clean-up work.

"Let's go, Akame, Shirojita."

Pulling out my umbrella from my back, I gave orders to my snakes and charged into the pack for the final blow.
