Gather Divine Coins and Gacha! - Chapter 312

 "Good morning!"

When I entered the office, the sight of everyone working diligently greeted my eyes.

Wow... Everyone's really giving it their all.

"As usual. It's already noon, you know?"

"I had trouble sleeping last night, you see? I ended up going to bed quite late."

It was because of the incident with one of the apprentice adventurers at the guild yesterday. As night approached, I kept wondering if that would be the time someone would try to sneak in for theft or if a brawl would break out, resulting in casualties. It bothered me so much that I couldn’t fall asleep easily.

In the end, I slept until almost noon, which didn’t really change the amount of sleep I got... Whenever Teresa doesn’t come to wake me up for work in the morning, this is usually how things turn out.

"I see... The branch manager of the Adventurers' Guild came by early this morning, bringing along one adventurer. It was about what you mentioned last night."

"...Ah."

So, they really came, huh? Accumulating holy coins... On top of that, if the hiding spot were to be exposed, the best option would be to cash it in for safety. Though, that brings up another problem of what to do with the money after it's exchanged... I wonder how that turned out?

"Have you eaten yet? Or have you already taken care of that?"

"Hm? Not yet. The timing's a bit off, so I was thinking of having lunch instead."

Basically, I’m planning on brunch. Since there are no plans for hunting today, I figured I'd just have something light to snack on.

"That’s why you never grow taller. You're having lunch with us today. Is that alright, Liesel?"

Seriana sighed once and asked Liesel.

"Of course. Sera, it'll be cleaned up soon, so wait until then."

Liesel agreed readily.

"Okay~"

Hmm... So, lunch with Liesel too, huh. He’s not someone I get nervous around anymore, but I’ll have to be a little more mindful, as I tend to let my guard down around him too much.

We decided to eat lunch in the smaller second dining hall.

The group consisted of me, Seriana, Liesel, and additionally Elena and Teresa. Crosa and Rose were also present, but they were serving and wouldn’t be eating with us. Normally, dining with the lord would be considered formal business, but this time, the atmosphere was more relaxed.

"Have you been eating less? I remember you used to eat a bit more, didn't you?"

I had already filled up quickly and stopped eating.

"Back with Zelkis, there was more vegetables and fruits. Here, it’s mostly meat, so I get full faster..."

Also, the seasoning is much heavier.

This city used to be on the front lines of development, with many adventurers and manual laborers. Perhaps because of that, the food tends to be heavily seasoned and rich. Since most of the chefs at the mansion are from this city, their cooking reflects that.

The food is delicious, but a little bit goes a long way.

"If strong seasoning doesn’t suit you, we could have your meals prepared separately from now on."

"I'm eating the necessary amount for now, but if that's possible, I'd appreciate it."

Teresa responded to Liesel’s offer. I didn’t think it was necessary, but… well, fine.

As we chatted over lunch, the conversation shifted to the branch manager and the adventurer who had come earlier in the morning.

"They had six cards, and we bought each one for 18 gold coins. Normally, when the lord exchanges them, it's about 15 coins per card, so we offered a bit more than the usual rate."

They had saved up quite a bit…

"We're not planning to publicize this much, but the branch manager said he would spread the word among people. It’s a good opportunity, so we'll have the residents exchange whatever they’ve been hoarding."

"Are they going to be alright suddenly having that much money?"

Saving up holy coins is scary, but hoarding a large amount of gold is also dangerous. To avoid trouble over money, everyone exchanges their coins regularly.

"Fortunately, this city attracts materials from the magic beasts of the magic wilderness. They'll be used to craft the highest quality equipment. Since those aren’t easy to exchange for gold, they’re unlikely to be targeted for theft."

"Oh?"

Custom-made equipment, like the one with my snake mark, often comes with some kind of identifying symbol. That information is recorded by the Commerce Guild, so if it's stolen, it would be hard to exchange it within the territory. Plus, the soldiers would be informed about theft incidents. Smuggling it out of the territory would also be difficult. As a theft prevention measure, it’s not a bad approach.

Now then...

"...What happened to that person's child?"

Saving up six cards probably meant they had hoped to try their luck with a gacha. But we ruined that plan...

"It didn’t turn into a big deal. They had been saving for their child all along. Though they can no longer use the holy coins, they said they’d create equipment that could be passed down for generations. It seems to have been resolved peacefully."

"Oh... That's good, then..."

If you pull a jackpot in a gacha, you can make a fortune in one go. Since that was ruined, it could’ve ended in the worst-case scenario.

It’s ironic how they had saved up for their child, only to have to give it up because of that same child. But still, as Liesel said, I’m glad it was settled peacefully.
