Gather Divine Coins and Gacha! - Chapter 181

A few days had passed since the end of the rainy season.

Now, I'm investigating the state of the town.

I'm checking to see if the waterways are overflowing, if the houses are severely damaged, if anything has collapsed... basically, if there's any abnormality.

Starting from the easily accessible areas, I'm inspecting the waterways that run along the inside of the town walls.

In this town, the southwest, where the magistrate's residence is located, is the highest point, and the northeast church district, diagonally opposite, is the lowest. Of course, there are drainage channels connecting to the outside of the town, but they ultimately lead to the low-lying church district.

And, with the garbage accumulating, they tend to get clogged and overflow.

Well, I suppose that's inevitable when you build a town seriously.

Both Alek's reports and my own experiences confirm that.

And the rainfall over the past two weeks has been almost typical.

However, as I circled the town along the outer walls just now, while the water level in the waterways is indeed higher than usual, none of them are overflowing.

Upon closer inspection, there are new drainage ditches, probably renovated by Liesel.

Additional barriers have been added to existing waterways, and they might have even worked on the waterways themselves.

Impressive.

Anyway, there don't seem to be any problems with the outer walls or the waterways.

Next is to check within the town.

Let's start from the west.

"Hmm..."

I meet the eyes of a family below and wave, but a groan escapes me.

As I look district by district across the town from above, things seem peaceful.

There are minor issues; for example, in some areas, carriages are stuck in the mud, causing traffic jams, or shelves placed outside have collapsed due to the daily rain damage.

There are a few minor injuries, but nothing serious, let alone any fatalities.

...I'm torn between whether this is thanks to Liesel being competent or the previous magistrate being utterly incompetent.

Well, it might be because they've been balancing things so as not to cause trouble from the position of the lord's power until now, but it's complicated for me as a resident of this town.

"Oh?"

As I absentmindedly head towards the southeastern adventurer district, I see Ziglhart heading into the adventurers' guild.

I recall that he and Alek were supposed to be checking the road conditions to the potential base camp together from morning... are they done?

Well, since I'm here, I might as well join them.

Deciding so, I begin my descent.

...When descending from outside the walls, it's a rapid drop, but within the town, I can't afford to pick up too much speed.

Descending at elevator-like speed, it feels uncomfortably vulnerable.

"Hello there."

Without incident, I enter the guild, where the adventurers inside give me suspicious glances.

It's not that they're harboring any hostility; it's just a habit.

When someone enters, they size them up, as if checking if they're some thug or another.

It feels somewhat similar to the old men back at the inn where Ziglhart stayed in the capital.

"Sera, what's up?"

Noticing me as I enter, Ziglhart, who was talking with the old men nearby, calls out.

He seems quite familiar with them... quite the celebrity.

"Nothing much. I was investigating the rain damage at the young lady's orders, but I saw Zig heading into the guild, so I thought I'd join you."

With that, I perch the floating orb on Ziglhart's shoulder and continue.

It's easier to talk this way indoors.

"I see. Alek said he'll drop by the merchants' guild first before coming here, so we'll have to wait a bit, alright?"

"Sure thing. I also want to hear a bit about what's going on around here."

The adventurer guild has been around since the founding of this town.

It's fine for everyday use, but once this town starts delving into dungeons, its size and lack of underground space will become issues.

Given that there's still plenty of land available in this town, expansion and renovation are ongoing.

It's my job to listen to what the guild members, construction workers, adventurers, and visiting merchants have to say and report any issues directly to Liesel or Ceriana.

That being said, I can't say there aren't any church-affiliated individuals among the people in this adventurer guild.

I've been avoiding staying too long alone, so now that Ziglhart is here, it's a good opportunity.

Let's dig out some information!
