Gather Divine Coins and Gacha! - Chapter 88

The three-day commemorative festival came to a close today.

The first day mainly focused on exchanges with foreign countries, including the west. I couldn't quite understand the part about executing foreigners as part of that, but overall, it was bustling.

On the second day was the main festival. They showcased the national treasure, a divine sword said to summon lightning. I was startled by the thunder in the clear midday sky, but I guess that was the sword's effect.

The third day featured domestic honors and ennoblements. Nothing particularly noteworthy happened.

Anyway, I secluded myself in the mansion from the second day onward. As a kid, there wasn't much for me to do, and it felt wrong to have someone constantly attending to me. Plus, dealing with crowds is exhausting. Even though I ended up helping with cleaning and dishwashing due to the numerous guests at the mansion, my activities remained largely unchanged from last year. But the environment is vastly different.

I can't believe how far I've come in less than a year. But it's not enough. I still aim higher.

"Are you ready yet?" Serianna's voice interrupted my internal declaration of determination.

"Hmm..."

Although the commemorative festival is over, there are still plenty of nobles staying in the royal capital, both domestic and foreign. With the need to entertain them and the upcoming busy schedule starting tomorrow, I decided to tackle the gacha while I still had some free time.

Serianna is still saving up, so it's just my turn this time. But hey, I've been abducted, after all. I'm putting my all into this gacha!

"Since it's not going to change anyway, just get it over with," she says, pouring cold water on my excitement.

Oh well.

"Hah!"

With a determined spirit, I offer a holy coin to the saint statue.

"Hmph!"

This time, the drumroll abruptly stops the moment it starts.

Now, let's see what I get!

A softly glowing orb about the size of a ping pong ball floats before me.

An item!

And the words that appear are "Fairy's Eye."

...Eye... Sphere... Eyeball!?

"What the...!?"

I inadvertently recoil, my mind racing with various associations.

I should have been more composed, but the orb falls and rolls clumsily until it reaches the front of Serianna's bedroom.

Hopefully, the carpet cushions the fall and it's not broken, right?

"Is it a blessing? What was it?" Serianna asks.

"...Fairy's Eye," I reply.

"...What!?" Serianna and Elena both react with similar disbelief, their minds evidently going down the same path.

Even though they're hesitant to approach, once you make that connection, it's hard to shake it off.

"Here," perhaps taking pity, Alex picks it up and brings it over to us.

"It's not an eyeball," I say as I catch it and examine it.

The size is about that of a ping pong ball, and it's white with a slight sheen.

Is it like a pearl?

I shake it near my ear, but there's no sound.

"Any insights?" Serianna asks.

"I have no idea," I reply.

"Alright, I'll release it for now. Come here," Serianna says.

I hand it over, and she releases it skillfully.

"Hmm?" she murmurs as the light fades from her hand, revealing the released item.

"Huh?" It's a cylindrical object about one centimeter in length, but it's too thin for a ring. It's made of gold with an elegant design of arabesques.

"It's an ear cuff. Come here," Serianna says.

Does that mean you wear it on your ear? Like an earring?

I approach and show her my left ear, and she puts it on with a click.

"It looks good," she remarks.

I guess she put it on my ear... but what does it do?

"Feel any different?" I ask.

"Nothing's changed," she replies.

Well, you can't see your own ears, so I wouldn't know.

"Hmmmm!" Since it has "eye" in the name, maybe it lets you see something.

It's an ability to see, so I activate Akame's Eye and focus my gaze.

"Wha-?" Instead of my ear or my eye, my forehead feels faintly warm.

"Ah..." Serianna makes an unusual sound, so I look at her. She's covering her mouth and wide-eyed.

Elena, who was standing behind her, has a similar expression.

I follow their gaze, and it leads to above my head.

This is getting creepy...

"Eek!" Summoning my courage, I look up, only to find a bloodshot eyeball glaring down at me.

What in the world is this?
