I’d been patrolling in a slightly wide circle around everyone while they rested, when I spotted something strange near the wall on the exact opposite side from this hall’s entrance.

A wave of flame reaching nearly up to the ceiling surged forward, spreading out like a fan toward where the enemy had been.
This isn’t a “wave” anymore—it’s basically a wall of fire.
I’d braced myself for the heat, so I could endure it, but what would happen without Kiira’s skill?
“Red Light—Shakkou‼”
And then a follow-up—an absurdly thick beam.
Looking forward over Kiira’s shoulder, I could see the ground peeling up from the magic’s aftereffects.
What a human weapon…
“Did we get it?”
That sounded like a flag, Alec.
But there’s no way something could take that and live, right?

I don’t know how it works, but he must have realized it was still alive—because at Luban’s signal, the three of them—Alec, Minea, and Luban—took off running.
Marida is preparing some kind of magic.

I was flustered, wondering if I should do something too, when Kiira stopped me.
“You go to the rear and keep watch of the surroundings. If anything happens to us, retreat and inform the guild.”
“Y-yeah.”
She said her piece and, without waiting for my reply, chased after the three who’d gone ahead.
“If anything happens”... is it that serious?
Marida ran forward too, so for now I’ll do what I was told and keep watch.
I raised 【Floating Orb】 higher and looked around.
Until a moment ago it had been grassland-like scenery, but with Luban’s magic, it’s been completely turned into scorched earth.
And as the three sprint across that scorched ground, two more follow a little behind.
They’re about to make contact with that black thing.
More importantly—can it really be alive after taking magic that turns the place into this?
Thinking that, I looked toward the wall where the black thing was, and noticed something had changed.
At first it was only vaguely humanoid, but now it’s fully taken on a human shape.
And it’s wearing full-body armor, holding a shield and something like a club.
Goblins usually only have, at best, a rock lying around, and I’ve heard that higher-ranking fiends might use a stick—or maybe a weapon dropped by an adventurer—but they shouldn’t be this clearly armed.

And in the first place, fiend-types aren’t supposed to appear in the upper layer…
