Gather Divine Coins and Gacha! - Chapter 24

 "Uwahahaha!"

The deepest part of the dungeon's shallows.

A child's high-pitched laughter echoed through the area where the boundary to the upper levels was now visible.

That was my voice.

What happened?

Well!

At long last!

The Holy Coins!

I've finally collected 10 of them‼

It’s been two full months since I was granted permission to explore solo.

March is just around the corner, signaling the end of winter.

Even though I say I collected 10 coins, I’ve been giving my contractor Seriana her agreed share.

So in total, I’ve actually earned 14 coins.

Thinking back to my first expedition where I got 3 coins, it feels like it took a while—but by general standards, this pace is unbelievably fast.

If it were just about defeating monsters, I could handle as many Goblins as you could throw at me without breaking a sweat.

In this latest battle too, I took on 8 of them and came out completely unscathed.

So why did it take two months?

Because there just weren’t enough monsters.

The shallows of the Zelkis Dungeon have several branching paths, but they all converge at the entrance to the upper levels.

Each route has points where monsters "pop up," like in a game.

The deeper you go, the denser those points become, but during this time of year, those deeper areas are crowded with adventurers, making hunting slower.

About a month ago, I discovered this sweet spot—right before the boundary where the upper-level adventurers don’t bother and the shallow-area hunters don’t reach.

Man, I really took the long way around.

Alright, time to head back and do a gacha pull—gacha, here I come!

I’d taken the liberty of borrowing a small goddess statue and placed it in my 【Hideout】, but since I now had access to a proper one, I decided to use the estate’s chapel instead.

...That was the plan, anyway.

"You managed to collect them in just two months? That’s impressive. But really, couldn’t you have brought just one more?"

"There’s not much time before we depart. Let’s look forward to continuing at the dungeon in the capital."

The two of them came all the way here just to say whatever they wanted, even though I could’ve done this alone.

Well, whatever.

Time to focus on the gacha.

I’ve already checked one by one, and unfortunately, they were all duds.

Seriana once told me that aside from the coin used at birth and the one used at age eight, any other Holy Coin can turn out to be a dud.

Apparently, among royalty and nobles, there’s a tradition: the father uses the coin from birth, and the mother uses the one from when the child turns eight.

For commoners, most end up exchanging them for money, so it’s more of a theory than a rule—but given my own experience, I think there’s truth to it.

It’s not strictly necessary, but I decided to follow the proper ritual and knelt in prayer.

I’ve already got the 【Floating Orb】 to compensate for my physical weakness, and the close-combat-oriented, ridiculously strong 【Shadow Sword】.

What I’m missing is a means of long-range attack.

I can still handle Goblins as I am now, but thinking ahead, I’m going to need something.

I tried using a bow, but I didn’t have the strength to draw it…

Knives and rocks only flew fast enough to maybe hurt if they hit—nothing more.

So I gave up on doing it myself for now.

Which brings me to the gacha.

Please...

Long range...

Magic...

Guns...

I focused all my hopes and offered the Holy Coin.

The drumroll that came with the fifth pull echoed in my mind again.

Alright... Give me something good!

The drumroll shifted to a fanfare.

The words that appeared were: 【Prayer】.

...【Prayer】?

What’s that supposed to be?

"Sera? It seems like a Blessing, but what did you get?"

Maybe because I tilted my head in confusion, Seriana asked what I pulled.

I call them Skills, but when they dwell within someone, they’re called Blessings.

Blessings are generally divided into two types.

One: those that activate automatically at all times.

The other: those you activate with your own will, like 【Hideout】.

The first kind activates as soon as you get it, and you instinctively know how to use it.

The second type requires you to figure out how to use it yourself, but they tend to be more powerful.

Nothing’s activated yet, so this 【Prayer】 must be the latter type.

"Sera...? What’s wrong? Are you okay?"

Maybe because I suddenly struck some vaguely prayer-like poses, assuming that since it’s called 【Prayer】 it must involve praying or something, Seriana started sounding concerned.

"What is 【Prayer】?"

"...【Prayer】?"

Seriously, what is 【Prayer】...?
